Who loves sugar and spice and all things nice?
We do!
So, we teamed up with dessert and baking queen Samantha Chiu from @samanthachiu to learn how to make
one of her oh-so-cute and delicious sweet treats!
Best part about all her creations are that they’re super easy and quick to make, but look like a million bucks.
Perfect for baking rookies like us and…the gram!
Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Bake Time: 15 Minutes
Rest Time: 10 Minutes
Donut
1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
Decoration
White candy melts
Sprinkles
Pink and purple fondant
Gold edible paint
Blue oil-based food coloring
Mermaid tail mold
Method
1.Grease donut pan with butter and lightly dust with flour.
2.Melt butter and add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
3.In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt and add flour mixture with milk to the butter mixture.
4.Fill donut pan 1/2 full.
5.Preheat oven at 350 degrees F and bake for 15-17 minutes or until the toothpick inserted into donut comes out clean.
6.Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Allow donuts to cool completely before decorating.
7.Microwave white candy melts for 30 second increments and stir with a spoon until there are no lumps.
8.Add a few drops of blue oil-based food coloring to the candy melts.
9.Dip donuts in candy melts and top with sprinkles.
10.Insert pink and purple fondant to mermaid tail mold.
11.Place finished mermaid tails on top of donuts.
12.Serve at room temperature.
Optional but highly recommended step because we love being extra:
Paint on gold edible paint once candy melts have dried.
This will make 12 donuts, and feed 12 friends…or less depending on how hungry you all are!
